Bihu performance

Assam created history and marked its entry in the Guinness Book of World Records on Thursday 20april, with more than 11000 dancers and drummers performing ‘Bihu’ dance and playing ‘dhol’ in a single venue.

To honour Assam’s admission into the Guinness Book of World Records, over 11,000 dancers and drummers performed the traditional Bihu dance, accompanied by several traditional musical instruments such as Taal, Dhol, Gogona, Pepa, Toka, and Xutuli. Training sessions were held around the state to guarantee that the finest performers were chosen for the event. The event’s major goal was to promote Assam’s rich cultural legacy to the rest of the globe.

Bihu performance

To make this event a huge hit, practice sessions were held across the state to bring in the best performers, and with the aim to put Assam’s cultural heritage on the world map.
As a reward for their participation, all performers, including master trainers and dancers, will receive a grant of INR 25,000.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the goal is to conduct the largest Bihu dance performance at a single site and enter the folk-dancing category in the Guinness Book of World Records.

“We set world records for both Bihu dance and Bihu dhols with 11,304 dancers and drummers,” Sharma added.

It is the largest Bihu dance and Bihu dhol performance ever held in a single location.

The performers were selected from across the state, with at least 70 percent of the performers being women and 30 percent being men. Dibrugarh had the most representation, with 1,400 performers in attendance, while South Salmara had the least representation with only 20 performers.

In conclusion

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this was a proud moment for the state. The goal was to showcase Assamese identity proudly in front of the world, and they have all the talent and potential, with dancers from Sadiya to Dhubri participating.

“At first, it was a challenge to bring all Bihu dancers in one frame, but it has been possible,” said Sarma. In the future, they plan to make 25,000 Bihu dancers dance together, which will be a historic moment for the state.

The event was witnessed by officials from the Guinness Book of World Records, who will certify the record on April 14 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
